Ovarian Cysts Treatment

Overview

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that develop on or inside a woman’s ovaries. While many are harmless and resolve on their own, some may require medical treatment.
Upon presenting with symptoms like abdominal pain or bloating, we typically initiate the diagnostic process with a pelvic ultrasound. With this imaging technique, we visualise the size, shape, and location of the cyst. If a cyst appears suspicious or causes significant discomfort, further evaluation may be necessary, often with an MRI or CT scan.

Medications and Surgery are the two primary treatments for problematic ovarian cysts. Medications, especially birth control pills, may be prescribed to prevent the development of new cysts. They don’t, however, reduce the size of existing ones.

For cysts that are large, persistent, or suspicious in nature, Surgery may be recommended. Laparoscopy, a minimally invasive procedure, is the most common surgical approach. It allows for the removal of the cyst while preserving the ovary. In more complex cases, a laparotomy might be needed. This involves a larger incision and may sometimes require the removal of the affected ovary.

When it comes to addressing these cysts, Srinivasa Hospital offers a range of diagnostic and therapeutic options to ensure the health and well-being of patients.
