Tubectomy, often referred to as female sterilisation or tubal ligation, is a surgical procedure performed to prevent pregnancy by blocking or sealing the fallopian tubes. The procedure ensures that an egg cannot move down the tube and get fertilized by a sperm. As a permanent method of contraception, it’s highly effective with a minimal failure rate.

Patients usually undergo a short hospital stay, and we perform the surgery using a laparoscope, a slender instrument that requires small incisions. Post-surgery, many women return to their regular activities within a week, though some might experience minor pain or discomfort.

It is essential for anyone considering a tubectomy to understand that it is a permanent solution. While there are procedures to reverse a tubectomy, they are not always successful. Hence, before making a decision we have a thorough consultation with the patient and her partner and also suggest to them alternate methods of contraception.
