Endometrial Biopsy

Overview

An endometrial biopsy is a diagnostic procedure carried out in hospitals to examine the lining of the uterus or the endometrium. This biopsy helps us in diagnosing various conditions related to abnormal menstrual periods and infertility, or to screen and detect endometrial cancer.

When patients present with symptoms such as unexpected vaginal bleeding, heavy menstrual flows, or abnormal menstrual cycles, an endometrial biopsy might be recommended by our gynaecologist. At Srinivasa Hospital, this procedure is often performed in the gynaecology department or outpatient clinic.

We insert a thin, flexible tube into the uterus through the cervix to collect a small sample of the endometrial tissue. The entire procedure is relatively quick, usually lasting about 10 minutes, and might cause some discomfort akin to menstrual cramping. Depending on the pain threshold some patients may need pain medication.

The sample is sent to a pathology laboratory, where it is examined for abnormalities or the presence of malignant cells.

Post-procedure, patients might experience mild cramping or spotting.

We ensure that the endometrial biopsy procedure is done with utmost precision, care, and sterility, ensuring reliable results.
