Regional Anaesthesia including Epidural and Combined Spinal Epidural (CSE)

Overview

Regional anaesthesia is performed by injecting medicine near a group of nerves to numb the specific area that needs surgery. It gives pain relief without full unconsciousness. Epidurals involve injecting anaesthetic near the spinal cord to block pain signals, commonly used during childbirth and lower body surgeries. CSE combines a spinal injection for rapid onset and an epidural catheter for sustained pain relief. Administered by anaesthesiologists, these techniques offer targeted anaesthesia, reduced systemic effects and faster recovery. Patients remain awake or sedated, with continuous monitoring to ensure safety and effective pain management throughout the procedure.
